When is the best time for cross-country skiing?

The optimal season lasts from December to March, often starting as early as autumn in the high-altitude trails in Ramsau and at the Dachstein Glacier, extending into spring.

How many trails are there and are they suitable for beginners?

Around 220 km of groomed trails (125 km classic, 95 km skating) in 20 districts – valley trails like those in Ramsau or Untertal are ideally suited for beginners.

Do the trails cost something and where can you buy tickets?

Valley trails are free, high-altitude trails cost between 14–20 euros per day; tickets can be obtained from sales outlets in Ramsau or via WinterCard at a discounted rate.

Are there night trails or glacier trails?

Yes, 2.8 km floodlit night trail in Ramsau and up to 15 km glacier trails at over 2,700 m on the Dachstein with a unique panorama.

Are dogs allowed on the trails?

Basically no, except in the Sölktal with a leash requirement. Dogs are prohibited on ski slopes and trails in Schladming-Dachstein.

What are the trail rules?

  • Adjust your speed to the conditions.
  • Only take breaks at the edge of the trail to allow others to pass unobstructed.
  • Be aware of oncoming traffic. Downhill skiers have priority when skating.
  • Please run on the right side in double tracks in classical style. Groups should move one behind the other.
  • Additionally, pay attention to the signs and markings as well as the opening hours of the trails.
  • If you are out with a dog, please stay exclusively on winter hiking paths and keep a distance from the trails.
